004 - Sound Output and Placing Your SPD-SX Around the Kit
In this video we're going to talk about how to run the sound output out of the Roland SPD-SX, and we'll also dig into some of the different locations that we can set up the SPD-SX around our kit.
Let's talk about the sound output for the Roland SPD-SX. We've got our pad here, and we have two sound output options. We can run mono or stereo. In some applications, stereo might be what you need, in most one-shot sample applications, mono will do the job. I'm running a standard 1/4" patch cable out of the left mono output, it's coming down, going into the input of my DI, and then the output of the DI is coming out with an XLR to go to front of house, or the snake that you might be inputting into.
Now let's talk about our setup options with the Roland SPD-SX. Option one is a typical setup, which is either beside the high-hat, or beside the floor tom. In our situation here, we've used the Roland PDS-10 stand. This is a great stand that adjusts up and down and can tilt the SPD-SX as well. Another popular option is to mount the SPDSX above the bass drum. We can easily do this using a boom cymbal stand and a variety of dual-sided clamps.
